Deutsche Welle targeted by Russia

Bad news for the EU-Commission said spokesman Peter Stano. Russia’s move to close DW office in Moscow is unacceptable. “Commission stands in full solidarity with DW.” #DW pic.twitter.com/37nKQOLQ4p

He claimed that German authorities are in no way involved in the issuing of licenses and the situation around RT DE.

Russia shut down DW's office in Moscow, after German regulators banned Russia's RT Deutsch.

“RT DE’s journalist work has never been restricted,” he stated.

“We urge the Russian side not to use [RT DE] licensing and legal problems to restrict the freedom of press and the freedom of expression,” Buchner continued. “We would like Russia to cancel these measures against Deutsche Welle and review this case.”.

Russia is closing the Moscow bureau of Germany’s global broadcaster Deutsche Welle & revoking DW staff’s accreditation.

The escalatory move comes after 🇩🇪 regulators ordered Russia’s RT to end German-language programs bc it lacked the required license. https://t.co/tYAnsB69rU
